Facilitating Effective Meetings - Virtual

Cost: $30

Location: Zoom link provided upon registration

Description:This meeting could have been an email” exists as a saying because it’s often true. In fact, it’s so true that Etsy has a whole line of items with the saying on it. As busy people, we’ve probably both attended and facilitated a meeting that lacked clarity or purpose. This can feel like a waste of time and, if it becomes common, causes disconnection or decreased credibility with our co-workers. At the same time, meetings that feel productive lead to earned trust, effective collaboration, and gratitude for our work together.

This workshop will share tips to facilitate effective meetings that promote teamwork. I’ll offer ways to structure conversations and share tools to document decisions and agreements that support follow-up. We’ll focus on strategies that encourage participation and promote inclusion across your team.

Talking with Staff about Vicarious Trauma - Virtual

Cost: $50

Location: Zoom link provided upon registration

Description: Helping vulnerable people can be very fulfilling, but over time being exposed to other people’s stories of trauma and struggle can weigh us down. Vicarious trauma is the impact of listening empathetically and actively to other people’s experiences, and the stress helpers may experience when feeling responsible for supporting others through their suffering.

One of the most effective ways that supervisors and organizations can support employees is to normalize that vicarious trauma will affect each of us. At the same time, they must strive to create and sustain a work environment where vicarious trauma is acknowledged often, and where employees and volunteers get support to take care of themselves.

In this workshop, we’ll discuss the different types of impact that helpers experience and consider how to help employees identify the signs that additional support is needed. We’ll also explore ways for teams and organizations to create practices and systems that reduce these impacts consistently, and over time.

Trauma Informed Supervision

Trauma Informed Supervision

Cost: $500

Location: TBD, In-person

Description: Providing direct services to vulnerable people is exhausting and rewarding work. Many of us come to it because of the ways the mission of our organization has impacted us personally, and all of us have a desire to improve the lives and honor the strengths of those who need our services. Because of the intense connection individual employees bring to their direct service, supervision that is trauma informed and focused on trust and kindness is essential to creating healthy work environments. Supervision should support employees so that they provide exceptional direct service, which helps an organization achieve its mission.

In this training, we’ll explore ways that supervisors can contribute to creating healthy workplaces while supporting their co-workers. They’ll be discussed in the context of our diverse organizations; many of which are collaborative, social justice based, and also hierarchical. We’ll focus on both theories of practice as well as tools such as providing direct feedback and addressing work performance issues. Those who are already supervisors or who are working towards becoming supervisors are encouraged to attend.

Trauma Informed Supervision & Accountability

Trauma Informed Supervision & Accountability

Cost: $100

Location: Zoom

Description: For supervisors, using trauma-informed principles provides a helpful framework to guide your behavior, your feedback, and the way you support co-workers whose lived experiences and/or personal identities are different from yours. These principles promote emotional safety and trust building, which increases collaboration in our teams. However, using these principles doesn’t mean you rely on “being nice” or avoid holding someone accountable if things aren’t going well. Instead, it means you approach these situations with empathy and clarity.

The reality is, supervisors should be building trust before addressing accountability is necessary. This makes these conversations go better and will hopefully encourage partnership to improve what’s needed. Stating expectations clearly, providing follow-through, and using active listening, combined with your direct, developmental feedback supports the accountability you're requesting.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how to use trauma-informed principles when addressing work performance issues and holding someone accountable. Together, we’ll discuss real scenarios and practice how to have these conversations effectively and with care.

In this training, we’ll discuss what happens in our overwhelmed brains and share specific tools to decrease stress and honor your wellbeing.
